For the liturgical year of 2022-2023, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception falls on Thursday, December 8th, 2022, and is a Holy Day of Obligation. When the Second Sunday of Advent falls on December 8th, the Immaculate Conception is transferred to Monday, December 9th, but the obligation to attend mass does not transfer. Mass attendance is always obligatory on Christmas (25 December), the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception (if observed on 8 December), and on the Solemnity of the Ascension. Whenever 1 January, 15 August, or 1 November fall on a Saturday or a Monday, the precept to attend Mass is abrogated. ![]()
